High speed rail developments in California

In support of the California High Speed Rail project in the Central Valley, Pitcher Services has worked with Jacobs from 2018-2023 to support the geotechnical investigation for this important green infrastructure project.

Pitcher Services has completed over 100 borings for the geotechnical investigation as well as monitoring well installations for groundwater information to guide liquefaction evaluation. A number of 500ft borings with downhole suspension logging were also completed to assess the seismic shear wave velocity profiles.

Highlights:

• Contract value $4M+
• High profile project with intense public scrutiny
• Completed 200ft boring and sampling in half the time of competition

Benefits/Challenges:

• Difficult access to some farmlands due to uncooperative land owners
• Biologists required to clear sites for animals and environmental impact before drilling activities
